Big Island home sales off to a slow start
The median price of a Big Island single-family home in January dipped by 4 percent to $231,000, but the price of a condominium rose 11 percent to $200,000, according to statistics from Hawaii Information Service.Sales volume was down for both single-family homes and condos last month when compared to January 2011.Single-family home sales dropped by 9.5 percent in January to 95 sales. The number of condos sold last month dropped by 19 percent to 35 units.

Occupancy rose at Hawaii hotels last week, while room rates increased by more than 8 percent, according to a report by Hospitality Advisors LLC and Smith Travel Research.Hotels statewide were 82.3 percent occupied during the week ending Jan. 28, which was six percentage points higher than the same week in 2011.
