New coach leads CTL favorite Okanogan
Bryan Boesel has certainly worked with his share of talented girls basketball teams. During his nine-year stint as Brewster's coach in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Boesel guided the Bears to three state championships.It appears as if Boesel's new team, Okanogan, is capable of making a similar run. After winning the Caribou League Trail championship and advancing to the 1A state tournament last season, Boesel wants his squad to set high goals for this year.

OKANOGAN, Wash. - A 60-year-old Winthrop, Wash., woman has been charged with causing the fatal crash last November that killed 29-year-old Gerardo Hernandez Velasco, of Bridgeport, Wash. Beverly C. Jensen was charged with vehicular homicide in Okanogan County Superior Court on Nov. 18, and a summons was issued for her to appear in court.

Donald David Schreckengost passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Don was born in Omak, WA on February 20, 1932, to Charles and Karen Schreckengost. Don attended Okanogan Schools and graduated in 1950. In high school, Don was a Varsity Letterman in Football, Basketball and Baseball.
Food-handler card class will be offered Friday
TONASKET - A class for people seeking food-handler cards, required for working with food on the job, will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Tonasket School District Office, 35 Highway 20.Cost is $10 per person. Checks should be payable to the Okanogan County Public Health Department. Participants renewing their cards are instructed to bring their current card.

Child taken to hospital after near-drowning
OKANOGAN - An 8-month-old Okanogan boy is at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane today after nearly drowning in a bathtub Sunday, authorities said.The boy's father, 33, was giving the child a bath, and may have left the child alone, said Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.

No ATVs on forest trails until June 15

Access: Take state Highway 20 heading west out of Okanogan for 18 miles or east from Twisp for 12 miles to Loup Loup Pass. Turn off at the summit and travel on Forest Service Road No. 41 and drive 0.3 miles south until you reach the sno-park area. There are 30 parking spaces and sanitary facilities available along with a scenic view point.
