An eastern Illinois woman is dead after an explosion in her home. Edgar County Coroner Peter Templeton said 62-year-old Helen J. Ball died at her house in Oakland. The town is about 35 miles south of Champaign.
Delta Air Lines ending Champaign-area flights
Delta Airlines says it will stop flying to the University of Illinois' Willard Airport just outside Champaign on Aug. 31. Delta said Wednesday that it is booking only about 60 percent of the seats on its flights between Willard and Detroit. Delta picked up the service between the Champaign area and Detroit when it recently merged with Northwest Airlines. Northwest had flown the route since the 1980s.
Rising concern over state budget nixes bread bid
A small central Illinois school district says the company that supplies bread for its lunches has declined to bid for a new contract because of the state's financial mess. Lewis Bakeries of Indiana cited the state's slow rate of providing appropriated money in not bidding for a new contract with the Unit 30 school district, Superintendent Bruce Owen said during a school board meeting Monday. Dieterich is about 70 miles south of Champaign. The two-school district has just under 500 students.
Marion County man charged with DUI in fatal crash
A Champaign County judge has set bond at $1 million for a Marion County man accused in a collision that killed a Champaign woman. Circuit Court Judge John Kennedy set bond Friday for 32-year-old Robert Eagan of Salem, who is charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving under the influence, and driving while his license was revoked.

Officials in Champaign are gearing up for the community's yearlong 150th anniversary celebration which kicks off later this week. An exhibit with several historic items will go on display starting Friday.
