Seward High Art: Mandalas
Seward High Art Students just finished a Mandala project. We began by looking at Eastern style Mandalas and talking about radial symmetry. Students came up with patterns or symbols to repeat around a circle. They used color pencil to color them in and had the option to make a background in any medium. They turned out awesome, great job! The weather in Seward was hot and windy. Temperatures rose to about 72 degrees Fahrenheit at the airport Thursday this evening, and hit 70 degrees Wednesday too. NW Winds blew steadily throughout the day, peaking at NW 25 at the airport with a peak gust of 37 mph this morning. Council Approves Two Sole Source Contracts...
By Heidi Zemach for SCN Harmon Construction, of Seward, will fix the broken boardwalk next to Seward Lagoon, starting today. The Seward City Council authorized payment of up to $8,000 to repair the damage, which was caused by a vehicle accident on July 1st. It was deemed an emergency appropriation, and therefore allowed the council to waive the competitive bid process. Senior Center Mural Dedicated
On Friday, June 8, the beautiful two-panel mural that now decorates the outside wall on the south side of the Seward Senior Center was dedicated in a ceremony by the Seward Mural Society, with special guest artist, Barbara Lavallee, who designed it. City Grants GCI Permit!
At one minute to 5:00p.m. this afternoon. (Friday, July 1), the City of Seward issued a permit to GCI to allow the communications company to install fiber optic broadband cables to city poles, as proposed earlier. Fiber Optic Update
As of this morning, the City of Seward had not issued a permit to allow GCI to proceed with its plans to add fiber optic cable to some city power poles. Multi Agency Weed Pull Day is a Huge Success
On Wednesday, June 29 park staff at Kenai Fjords National Park co-hosted the 8th annual weed pull along the Exit Glacier Road. There were over 40 folks who assisted from partners such as the Resurrection Bay Conservation Alliance (RBCA), USFS Chugach National Forest, Southeast Alaska Guidance Association, Student Conservation Association, Youth Conservation Corps, and sailors from the USS Lake Erie. This joyful two-panel mural, being mounted on the Seward Senior Center and Seward Museum building, was painted during the Seward Music and Art Festival September of 2010. The master artist is Barbara LaVallee, chosen because of her knack for catching people doing everyday things.
