Seward High Art: Mandalas
Seward High Art Students just finished a Mandala project. We began by looking at Eastern style Mandalas and talking about radial symmetry. Students came up with patterns or symbols to repeat around a circle. They used color pencil to color them in and had the option to make a background in any medium. They turned out awesome, great job! The weather in Seward was hot and windy. Temperatures rose to about 72 degrees Fahrenheit at the airport Thursday this evening, and hit 70 degrees Wednesday too. NW Winds blew steadily throughout the day, peaking at NW 25 at the airport with a peak gust of 37 mph this morning. Multi Agency Weed Pull Day is a Huge Success
On Wednesday, June 29 park staff at Kenai Fjords National Park co-hosted the 8th annual weed pull along the Exit Glacier Road. There were over 40 folks who assisted from partners such as the Resurrection Bay Conservation Alliance (RBCA), USFS Chugach National Forest, Southeast Alaska Guidance Association, Student Conservation Association, Youth Conservation Corps, and sailors from the USS Lake Erie. Russian River Area Closed Due To Bear and Cubs
The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has temporarily closed all public entry in the forested area on the north side of the Kenai River near the Kenai-Russian River Ferry because of heightened bear activity in the area. May proved to be the seventh consecutive month to bring below-average precipitation to Seward. A low pressure system brought strong winds and big seas in mid-May prompting small craft advisories in the coastal waters of Kenai Fjords. Assembly approves SeaLife weather project
The May 3 Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meeting extended until 11:45 p.m., due in large part to some 18 residents speaking against Ordinance 2011-06, which would have raised the sales tax ceiling from $500 to $2500. It was defeated unanimously. Also after testimony and discussion, we voted to postpone Ordinance 2011-07 until Sept. 6. This would reduce the number of KPB Planning Commissioners from 13 to 11.

Government Shutdown Uncertainty
