Navarre finds his stride as borough mayor
Both times Mike Navarre has stepped into office as Kenai Peninsula Borough mayor he inherited a disaster of sorts. Earlier this November that disaster was the damage caused by a chain of windstorms that rocked the central and southern Peninsula, costing at least $2 million in repairs and man hours, keeping boroughwide services on alert for several weeks.

KENAI -- Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Mike Navarre has signed a disaster declaration, requesting assistance from the state to recover the costs associated with the damage caused by the recent windstorms in the region.
Peninsula storm damage may top $2 million
KENAI -- An official with the Homer Electric Association expects this month's wind storms on the Kenai Peninsula to wind up costing more than $2 million. Joe Gallagher told the Peninsula Clarion that figure includes equipment and personnel costs to restore power. Three storms left more than 13,000 homes without power at some point of the month. Kenai Peninsula Borough officials are considering seeking a combined disaster declaration.
